I’ve only seen golf-ball-size hail once in my life, while in Dallas, Texas, and it was eye-opening. But what happened in the Midwest a few days ago makes that look minor by comparison. Videos circulating on social media show hailstones far larger than most people ever experience.
AccuWeather shared one of the most intense clips (see embed below). The caption read: “Huge hail slammed into a lake in Minnesota as severe weather swept the region. Madison Lake resident Terri Robb captured this video and said the storm was producing ‘baseball-sized hail.’”

Local FOX 9 confirmed the scale of the storm, reporting: “The storms also dropped hail as large as three inches in diameter in our first severe weather event of the season.”
The footage was so unusual that some users on X even asked Grok whether it was AI-generated.

The storm also caused real damage on the ground. Kevin Revolinski shared photos on Facebook showing the aftermath in Madison.
“Pretty big hail today in Madison. It poked a hole in a window on our condo, but only a few dings on the car,” he wrote. “A neighbor parked next to us lost their rear window and cracked their windshield. Six other cars in the lot also had window damage, including one that lost the back window completely. You can see the impact crater in the yard. All of this was pretty loud.”
