What are you up to this weekend? Twelve-year-old Anton and I are heading to Maine for a couple nights, to take long walks and breathe that fresh ocean air. Will report back! Hope you have a good one, and here are a few links from around the web…

The history of Juneteenth. (NYTimes gift link)

Father’s Day gift guides are so funny. “A Personalized Hammer. Just in case your dad confuses his hammer with another dad’s hammer at the hammer function.”

The ultimate summer cookout spread, yummm.

Are you watching the new show Maximum Pleasure Guaranteed? The trailer is very compelling.

I’m honestly tempted to get a flip phone.

Behind-the-scenes of the first official portrait of Barack and Michelle together. And writes the New York Times about the library: “The Obamas have always emphasized that this museum was not intended to be a traditional presidential library, but also a community hub, a sprawling campus with a garden, a basketball court and performance space.”

What a pretty dress, and amazing deals on gorgeous shoes.

I’m reading the novel Lion about a daughter and her charismatic race-car-driving, cocaine-addicted, mostly absent father, and it’s really beautiful. Highly recommend.

    The Black Jeopardy misses.

A plum tree as a birthday present!

What prom night looks like in America. “I got McDonald’s and went to bed,” Josephine said. “I fell asleep in my makeup.” (NYTimes gift link)

How should you tell your spouse “I want a divorce”? (Big Salad, paywalled, thank you so much for your support)

    Plus, two reader comments:

Says Sage on a weird-but-amazing trick for falling asleep: “YA’LL, this is nuts. I tried this trick tonight with my nine-year-old – she’s been having a super tough time falling asleep lately; lots of anxiety and emotions — and she was asleep in less than a minute. My mind is blown. Thank you!”

Says Kim on the tincture of time: “Amid the perils and pleasures of raising a tween daughter, I will remember this advice. Not everything is an emergency to be solved on the spot. Not all feelings are marching orders, with her or anyone (myself included). Last night, she was angry with me (and vice versa). This morning, she reaches up her arms to pull me to her, saying ‘Momma, my momma, my mommy, come here’. It is all as it should be.”
