When Nekajui, a Ritz-Carlton Reserve, opened on Costa Rica’s Peninsula Papagayo last year, it quickly became inextricable from the tropical hillside it calls home. The property’s 107 rooms and suites (and 36 residences) emerge organically from among the tropical forest, where howler monkeys’ cries hang in the air and guests travel through the treetops by a suspended bridge. With views of the Pacific Ocean and access to abundant wildlife, Nekajui is a Venn diagram of the natural bounty and diverse beauty that has long drawn travelers to the country’s northwestern coastline.A view of the Andaz propertyDaniel MoralesOther hospitality brands have…

Since I started Financial Samurai in 2009, I have been on a mission to help readers achieve financial freedom sooner rather than later. Once you have secured your primary residence, you no longer are at the mercy of ever rising rents. Inflation is too difficult a beast to defeat. Once you get neutral real estate, you can eventually get long real estate by adding rental properties over time. Owning more than one property is…

When I was a teenager, my mom and I used to go to Jazzercise together.  I don’t really know how this happened — by all accounts, most of my peers would have been mortified to go to an exercise class of any kind with their mother, let alone an aerobics workout with a name that conjured images of peppy moms in technicolor leotards. (For the record, this reputation was, even then, deeply outdated.) But I loved it. “Most of my peers would have been mortified to go to an exercise class of any kind with their mother, let alone an aerobics workout…but…

Yesterday, I attended United Airlines’ fun Media Day in one of their LAX hangars. Before the event started, United had already sent out a press release packed with announcements and there was a lot to digest. But one thing they purposely kept under wraps was the big surprise: the introduction of their new “Relax Row.” The crowd buzzed with excitement and I was no exception. It immediately took me back to Air New Zealand’s delivery flight in 2010 when they first introduced a similar concept (photo below). As it turns out, United collaborated with their Star Alliance partner on the…
