Abstract
Insomnia is becoming more common due to population ageing and rising numbers of people living with long-term conditions, as these groups are particularly vulnerable to sleep problems. Medication given to treat long-term conditions can also cause insomnia. This article, the second in a series, examines how long-term conditions and medication can affect sleep. It also explains how nurses can use history taking and assessment to identify barriers to sleep, and how to address these.
