As the temperature keeps dropping and while fresh apples are in season and at their best price is always the best time to bake. My apple pear pie is a unique take of a classic apple pie recipe that provides that same delicious and comforting dessert that is so inviting to welcome family and guests to your kitchen.

For this pie, I tend to use gala apples because they are common and the cheapest variety in my part of the country. Another advantage of using this variety is that it allows me to reduce the sugar, being naturally sweeter than other types such as Granny Smith or Honeycrisp.

Put this pie in a great pie crust such as my oil pie crust that is honestly the easiest and foolproof one that a pie maker can ask and you have a pie to be proud of. This is the recipe that I have adopted for years now since I ran out of shortening once making pie crust. It is flaky, healthier (especially if using olive oil, but canola oil works well too), unbelievably simple and one that you can depend on, especially if you had problems making pie crust in the past. Furthermore, if you buy packaged pie dough, my oil pie crust will save you money and stretch your food dollars, which is extra important now with the higher cost of groceries and everything else now.

    Apple Pear Pie Recipe

This pie offers a delightful blend of sweet apples, soft pears, and warming spices.

    Ingredients

6 medium apples, chopped into small pieces)
1 can (15-oz.) sliced pears (cut into small pieces)
    3/4 cup of sugar
    3/4 teaspoons of ground cinnamon
    1/4 teaspoon of ground cloves
    1/4 cup of flour
1 pie crust to fit a double crust for a 9″ pie pan (make 1 recipe of my oil pie crust)

    Instructions

    1. Peel, wash and cut your apples into small pieces, then drain.
    2. In a mixing bowl, combine the apples, sugar, spices and flour next.
    3. Now I like to put this mixture in a microwave dish with a lid and cook the apples until somewhat tender. It usually takes about 12 minutes in my 700 watt microwave, but it could be less for a higher wattage oven.
    4. Make my oil pie crust or your favorite recipe that can a double crust and fit into a nine-inch pie pan that is already well greased.
    5. Now mix in the drained chopped pears with the apple mixture before depositing in your waiting pie pan.
    6. Cover with the top crust.
    7. Be sure to slit the top of your crust to allow the steam to escape.
    8. Transfer to a 400-degree oven and bake for about 30 minutes, depending on how your oven is regulated. The top will be golden brown in some places. Stab it with a slender knife or a cake tester to see how tender your apples are to indicate doneness.
    9. Take out and cool for a few minutes allows the juices to thicken up a bit more before slicing.
    10. ENJOY!

    Serving and Storage Tips

    Serving Suggestions

For a truly decadent experience, serve a slice of the warm pie with a scoop of vanilla ice cream or a dollop of freshly whipped cream.

A small drizzle of caramel sauce over the top elevates the sweetness and complements the fruit flavors beautifully.

    Storing Leftovers

To enjoy that fresh-baked warmth, place individual slices on a baking sheet and heat them in a 350-degree oven for about 5-10 minutes.

This recipe for my apple pear pie is more than just a dessert; it’s a slice of warm, cozy comfort. Whether you’re an experienced baker or just getting started, I encourage you to try this recipe, especially the oil pie crust, which I promise will become your new and unique take of a recipe for apple pie. Bake a pie, fill your kitchen with the scent of cinnamon and cloves, and let me know how much that your family and friends love it!
