The Good Trade editors endorse products we’ve personally researched, tested, and genuinely love. Learn more about our methodology and business model here.

We’ve curled up with countless nontoxic bedding brands over the years. These are our favorite percale sheets that are organic, made to last, and breathable for the season.

Known for their lightweight, soft-to-the-touch feel and breathability, percale sheets are a classic for a reason. They’re great for warm sleepers or hot summer nights, or if you just prefer a little extra ventilation while you sleep. Because the sheets on this list are also made from 100% organic cotton, they’re extra comfy, breathable, and durable to last you many restful nights. 😴

    What are percale sheets?

Percale sheets are defined by their distinct weave style — a simple one thread over, one thread under pattern. Percale, usually made from cotton, refers to the type of weave, as opposed to other types of weaves like sateen (also made from cotton) or linen (made from flax).

What should you consider when shopping for percale sheets?

Percale sheets are often made from cotton, although sometimes synthetic materials can also be woven in. The brands on this list offer 100% cotton percale sheets, many of which are also certified Global Organic Textile Standard (GOTS) organic cotton, which is the gold standard for ensuring organic cotton is actually environmentally and socially responsible, and that you’re actually getting true organic cotton grown without pesticides and other chemicals.

Another certification to look for is OEKO-TEX certified, which means the product’s fabric, threads, and other components were tested and free from harmful chemicals, ensuring they’re safe for your household.

Lastly, several of the brands on this list are also Fair Trade certified, which ensures that safe and ethical labor practices, fair wages, and responsible business practices are in place.

Beyond certifications, other considerations include the type of sheets you’re looking for. Do you want a more lived-in feel? You might want to opt for a set of sheets that has a more vintage wash. Or maybe instead you prefer more hotel-like sheets, then look for a set that’s considered more structured and durable. We note below the look and feel of the sheets for each brand!

How should you wash percale sheets?

While it varies from brand to brand, a good general rule of thumb for washing percale sheets is to wash them on cool – not super hot, not super cold. Avoid using intense fabric softeners or harsh chemicals like bleach because these can harm the fibers long-term and affect the durability of the sheets after several washes. Instead, use a nontoxic laundry detergent. Tumble dry on low. Using wool dryer balls to help fluff them up and keep them from getting tangled is a great option, though not required.

    Our criteria:

We’ve researched, tested, and personally slept on dozens of bedding brands and bed sheets over the years. These are our picks for the best percale bed sheets from brands that use sustainable and responsible practices and high-quality, durable, natural materials that will last.

    • Organic & nontoxic | These bed sheets are made from organic cotton, many of which are GOTS certified and/or OEKO-TEX Standard 100 certified to ensure they use natural and nontoxic materials.
    • Ethical & eco-friendly | The brands on this list use sustainable and renewable practices, give back to environmental causes, and use fair and ethical business practices.
    • Durable | These percale bed sheets are made from high-quality, durable materials that last many washes and good nights of sleep.

Sizes Available | Twin, Full, Queen, King, California King
    Price for Queen | $218

Coyuchi is a TGT favorite for organic and cotton bedding, and the percale sheets are no exception. They’re designed to tent away from the skin to allow for air circulation and flow, keeping you cool all night long. They’re made of 100% GOTS Certified organic cotton, and have a naturally crinkled texture that feels and looks casual and worn-in. There are also several color options, mostly in earth tones, and a few striped options as well. Coyuchi’s 2nd Home Renewed program gives new life to all returns — including percale sheets — offering them secondhand at a discounted price as a way to keep product out of landfills.

Editor Review | “I am very picky about the textures and materials that I surround myself with when I sleep. Thankfully, these bed sheets are incredibly soft and designed with sensitive skin in mind. They’re made from GOTS Certified organic cotton, making them lightweight and breathable.” – Brianna Schubert, contributing editor [Read the full review here.]
