A flight attendant who goes by A Fly Guy has built quite a community with more than 1.5 million followers on Facebook in a group called A Fly Guy’s Cabin Crew Lounge. It is made up mostly of flight attendants but also includes plenty of pilots, airline and airport workers as well as frequent travelers like me.
Today he asked his community, “What have you caught passengers stealing from the plane? #passengershaming #aviation” The answers are plentiful and surprising. There are already more than 450 comments but I have picked out some of the top ones.

I have been on thousands of flights and flown millions of miles and I have seen some passengers pack headphones and blankets into their carryon bags. It is embarrassing and I feel sorry for them since they are either desperate or a kleptomaniac. I remember flying Virgin Australia in business class once between Los Angeles and Sydney when the flight attendants told passengers to take the salt and pepper shakers designed like the Sydney Opera House. They even gave us the boxes they came in. Here’s that trip report.
How about you? Have you ever seen your seatmate steal something from a plane?
