Forget planning your glitzy Christmas Day or New Year’s Eve ensemble this year—U.S. Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy wants you to start thinking about your airport outfit first. 

In a press conference last week, the Department of Transportation revealed a new campaign called “The Golden Age of Travel Starts With You.” This plan was launched to “restore courtesy and class to air travel” during the holiday season by reminding travelers to be polite and practice civility toward others by saying “please” and “thank you,” helping pregnant and elderly passengers load and unload their carry-ons, and keeping a closer watch on their children.

Out of all of Duffy’s urges to the public, though, “dressing with respect”—he proposed sporting a “pair of jeans and a nice shirt” rather than “slippers and pajamas”—has earned the most criticism from frequent fliers. And frankly, we’re inclined to agree: In an age where plane seats seem to get more uncomfortable and squished together by the hour, wearing a pair of restrictive jeans or trousers is just asking to be miserable.
