The Good Trade editors endorse products we’ve personally researched, tested, and genuinely love. Learn more about our methodology and business model here.

I’ve tried dozens of the best alcohol alternatives out there — these are my favorites that use high-quality ingredients for taste and functionality.

Non-alcoholic beverages are having a moment. And with how long this moment’s been going on, it looks like the booze-free bevvies are here to stay. The non-alcoholic drinks market surpassed $11 billion worldwide in 2022, and was valued at a whopping $1.3 trillion in 2023. And now, non-alc drinks are officially more than a trend, owing to Gen Z’s more restrained drinking habits.

While abstaining from spirits used to mean ordering a Coke at the bar, that trillion-dollar market now has plenty of alternatives — non-alcoholic cocktails that taste like real cocktails, non-alcoholic beer that tastes kind of like beer, non-alcoholic wine that tastes like real wine, non-alcoholic wine that doesn’t taste anything like wine, and non-alcoholic seltzers that taste like well, all kinds of things. Some of them even have adaptogens, caffeine, or THC in them — and these functional alternatives are some of our favorite options of the bunch.

    Why consider alcohol alternatives?

There are lots of reasons you could be refraining from drinking alcohol (and they’re all valid!) Maybe you’re sober. Or you’re sober curious. You’re doing a Dry January or a Sober October. You’ve had the worst hangover and are “Never. Drinking. Again!” (We’ve been there.) You’re prioritizing your health, you hate the way alcohol makes you feel, or you simply dislike how it tastes. Maybe you’re pregnant! Like we said, the list could go on and on. Whatever the reason you might be abstaining, it doesn’t mean you have to miss out on the ritual of winding down with a special beverage.

What to look for in a nonalcoholic beverage?

As noted above, these types of drinks vary greatly. Some taste like cocktails, some are all about the adaptogens and nootropics, and some are their own thing entirely. While the non-alcoholic scene is all about honoring your own preferences, the below list has an emphasis on functional (or adaptogen- and nootropic-containing) beverages, designed to help you feel a little more relaxed or social without the full-on tipsiness.

You’ll also find details about sugar content, caffeine content, and flavor profiles below, so you can find exactly what you’re looking for. Whether you reach for a rocks glass or a stem glass, these are a handful of drinks that are making us rethink spirits and how delicious an alcohol-free drink can taste.

    Our methodology & criteria:

The Good Trade was sent these 15 alcohol-free beverages for review and I’ve personally tested them all for taste, functionality, and high-quality ingredients. Below, you’ll find my reviews with tasting notes and research, too. We continuously update this list with new favorites that meet the following criteria.

We tested non-alcoholic drinks on the market today to find the best made with high quality, functional ingredients, that also taste delicious.
    • HIGH-QUALITY INGREDIENTS | I’ve reviewed brand materials for each of these drinks and vetted them to make sure they use primarily organic, ethically sourced, and natural ingredients.
    • TASTE | We’ve selected only drinks that are pleasant in taste, and many of which are still reminiscent of your favorite alcoholic beverages (without all the alcohol, of course). I’ve included tasting notes for each brand.
    • FUNCTIONAL INGREDIENTS | Many of these brands use natural plants, herbs, fruits, and flowers to provide added health benefits. I’ve noted the effects so you can choose what suits you best, from relaxation to feeling energized.

    1. Curious Elixirs

    Best For | Cocktail-inspired botanicals
    ABV | 0%
    Sugar | 4–11g
    Functional ingredients | Ashwagandha
Price | $44 per 4-bottle pack (8 cocktails), $5.50 per serving; subscriptions available

Handcrafted in the Hudson River valley, Curious Elixirs uses organic juices, spices, herbs, roots, barks, and botanicals for its elixirs designed to resemble elevated craft cocktails. Whether you opt for the floral blend boosted with ashwagandha or the carbonated concoction cooled with ginseng, the drinks are best enjoyed on the rocks with your favorite garnish.

I tried out their Curious No. 1, a pomegranate negroni sbagliato that tasted surprisingly accurate. It was less bitter than a traditional negroni, but those are too bitter in my opinion. It read like an expensive drink from a nice cocktail bar, with a kombucha-esque kick to it — I loved it. Each bottle contains two servings, so these are best for parties, dates, or any time you need more than one drink, and they make single-serving can options, too. All their cocktails are also fair trade and free of added sugar, gluten, dairy, and nuts. Want more info? Read our full Curious Elixirs review!

A brown bottle with a gold cap labeled "Curious No. 1" is placed on a wooden surface. A potted plant and a curtain are in the background.
A glass filled with a red iced drink sits on a wooden table, surrounded by green potted plants in the background.
Curious Elixirs’ ready-to-pour drinks are sophisticated blends of herbs, botanicals, and adaptogens that are as flavorful as any upscale craft cocktail from your favorite bar.

    2. De Soi

    Best For | NA apéritifs
    ABV | 0%
    Sugar | 6–13g
    Functional ingredients | L-theanine, lion’s mane, reishi
Price | $20 per 4-can pack, $4.25 per serving; subscriptions available

Inspired by the French ethos of pleasure and restraint, De Soi’s range of sparkling non-alcoholic apéritifs is full of natural adaptogens. Botanicals like ashwagandha and reishi mushroom help mellow your mind and boost your mood, so you can enjoy a more considered happy hour. And they don’t sacrifice taste — I tried out their Golden Hour and their seasonal Spritz Italiano, both of which were tasty and complex enough to scratch that cocktail itch. Spritz Italiano is a fantastic Aperol spritz dupe, a little more grapefruit-y but with that same satisfying hint of bitterness. And Golden Hour was botanical, punchy, and refreshing — what I thought was a strong ginger flavor was really yuzu, bergamot, and hops. Founded by Morgan McLachlan and Katy Perry (yes, that Katy Perry!), De Soi is also available in the flavors Champignon Dreams and Très Rosé.

A can of De Soi Sparkling Non-Alcoholic Aperitif sits on a wooden table next to a plant.
A wine glass filled with an orange beverage and ice cubes sits on a wooden table. The background includes green leafy plants and a white curtain.
Bubble-lovers, rejoice! De Soi makes sparkling apértifs packed with adaptogens and flavor to scratch your happy hour itch without risking a next-day hangover. Cheers!

    3. BRĒZ

Best For | THC + CBD lovers
    ABV | <0.5%
    Sugar | 8–14g
Functional ingredients | THC, hemp extract, lion’s mane extract
Price | $35 for 6-can pack, $5.80 per serving; subscriptions available

BRĒZ is a microdosed cannabis and mushroom social tonic that has taken the market by storm. The brand’s Lemon Elderflower drink is infused with THC, CBD, and Lion’s Mane mushrooms to provide an unparalleled drinking experience. The brand is on a mission to provide a delicious alcohol alternative that is euphoric, calming, and inspiring. It comes in two doses: A 12oz (5mg THC) can, and a 7.5oz (2.5mg THC) can. The mild cannabis taste creates a pleasant bitterness that makes it seem like a real cocktail. It was surprisingly refreshing on its own, and gave me a very mellow, comfortable feeling that wasn’t groggy at all. And the best part? No hangover!

BRĒZ’s THC- and CBD-infused Lemon Elderflower beverage is perfect for a mellow buzz in a fruity, subtle bev that won’t knock you out.

    The Good Trade Partner

    4. Ghia

Best For | Chic NA cocktails
    ABV | 0%
    Sugar | 2–8g
Functional ingredients | Lemon balm, ginger, rosemary
Price | $38 per 17-serving bottle, $2.24 per serving; bundles available

Ghia has been a favorite of our editors for a while now, and for good reason — both their flavors and their branding is absolutely impeccable. Don’t miss out on a cute bar cart just because you aren’t drinking! While I got to review their seltzer last year, I finally got to try their aperitif this time around, along with the rest of their seltzer flavors. And nothing disappointed. Their aperitif, mixed with soda, is juicy, citrusy, and herbal but subtly bitter, with a complexity that makes it super satisfying. You can choose your own adventure in terms of strength with the big bottle, too, which contains approximately 17 servings. Their Ghia Soda and Ghia Ginger are also favorites in my household! We love Ghia for the elevated experience it brings, inspired by the Mediterranean tradition of aperitivo — the traditional pre-meal drink intended to whet your appetite and prepare your stomach.

A bottle of Ghia non-alcoholic aperitif with a wooden cap sits on a wooden table. Green potted plants are placed around it.
A glass of pink beverage with ice sits on a wooden table, with two cans of Ghia behind it. A potted plant is partially visible on the left.
Ghia’s seltzers and signature apertif are TGT favorites! Lightly bitter, bright, and a little herbal, these drinks are the perfect daily happy hour treat.

    5. Kin Euphorics

Best For | High-vibe cocktail replacements
    ABV | 0%
    Sugar | 3–7g
Functional ingredients | Schisandra, damiana, L-theanine, caffeine, turmeric
Price | $39 per 8-can pack, $4.89 per serving; subscriptions available

Kin Euphoric’s vibey packaging is enough to set a laid-back mood all on its own, but that’s what the drink inside is designed to do, too. The brand focuses on the feeling their drinks give you, with options like Lightwave (a “portal to peace”), Actual Sunshine (an “immunity and beauty booster”), and Kin Bloom (for “heart-opening joy”). The flavor is still great, though — the latter was a little carbonated with a refreshing, lightly sweet herbal taste with a subtle white grape juice flavor, too, that made it reminiscent of wine. The caffeine-free blend has adaptogens like L-theanine and ashwagandha, while some of their other blends are “lightly caffeinated” (50 milligrams or less). They each have their own blend of different adaptogens and nootropics like reishi or tryptophan so you can perfectly curate your vibe — which is why we highly suggest one of their variety packs. They make two non-alcoholic aperitif blends, too, designed for mixing.

A can of Kin Euphorics non-alcoholic beverage sits on a wooden table. It is pink and green colored with text on the front. Plants in white pots are in the background.
A glass of amber-colored liquid with a foamy head sits on a wooden surface, surrounded by green potted plants. Light filters through a window in the background.
Choose your Kin Euphorics drink by flavor or desired feeling, achieved with their thoughtfully formulated ingredients like L-theanine and ashwagandha.

    6. hiyo

    Best For | Health conscious
    ABV | 0%
    Sugar | 3–5g
Functional ingredients | L-theanine, lion’s mane, ashwagandha, lemon balm
    Price | $45 for a 12-can pack, $3.75 per serving; subscriptions available

The founders of hiyo wanted to make an alternative to alcohol that was as delicious as it was healthy. Enter their mindful social tonics. The seltzers come in 12-ounce cans and are full of organic adaptogens to counteract the effects of stress on the body and nootropics to support healthy brain functions, along with real fruit juice. They have a smooth, fruity taste that’s surprisingly sweet (but not too sweet) for a drink that only has three grams of added sugar. I loved their strawberry guava flavor, a juicy, fruity, summery treat that’s perfect for the beach, but you can also pick up a variety pack that includes other flavors like peach mango and blackberry lemon. And the drinks are more than just tasty — all their seltzers are designed to give you “the float,” a mood-boosting sensation owing to their L-theanine, lion’s mane, ashwagandha, and other botanicals.

A can of hiyo sparkling social tonic stands on a wooden surface, flanked by green plants in the background.
A glass of red beverage with ice on a wooden table, next to a plant in a pink pot and a large green leaf.
hiyo makes tasty seltzers full of stress-reducing nootropics and adaptogens, which work together to give you a pleasant “float” feeling.

    7. Three Spirit

    Best For | Booze-free spirits
    ABV | Less than 0.5%
    Sugar | 2–8.75g
Functional ingredients | Lion’s mane, lemon balm, valerian root, caffeine
Price | $39 per bottle, $3.90 per serving; subscriptions available

Three Spirit makes three functional booze-free spirits alternatives — Livener, Social, and Nightcap — all of which are curated by plant scientists, bartenders, artists, and herbalists. They make a couple of wine alternatives, too, full of both flavor and adaptogens. Adaptogens are the star of the show with their spirits alternatives, too, with different blends that put you in whatever mood you’re looking for. I liked Social as a full-bodied, bittersweet liquor alternative. Blended with soda it had a rich, herbal, molasses-y, almost savory flavor, which comes from its cacao, lion’s mane, and damiana. This one would be excellent with ginger ale or beer for a dark ‘n’ stormy vibe, and it has tons of B vitamins, too, so you can feel great about drinking it. Blended and bottled in the UK, you can also find Three Spirit in the US online or at select stockists.

A bottle of Three Spirit Social Elixir stands on a wooden table beside a glass filled with a dark beverage and ice cubes, surrounded by green plants.
A clear glass with red liquid and ice sits on a wooden table. There is a green potted plant on the left and part of a large leaf on the right. White curtains are in the background.
Three Spirit makes functional drinks that are packed with powerful plants curated by botanists, herbalists, bartenders, and artists.

    8. Ritual Zero Proof

Best For | Tastes like booze
    ABV | 0%
    Sugar | Less than 2g
Functional ingredients | Authentic liquor replacement
Price | $33 per bottle, $1.94 per serving; subscriptions available

When you want all the smells and tastes of the traditional cocktail minus the alcohol, Ritual’s got you covered — this one really tasted like booze! Crafted by discerning friends and foodies looking to expand their options on the cocktail horizons, Ritual is a one-to-one liquor alternative to bar cart staples that delivers. If you’re craving an Old Fashioned, the brand knows you’re looking for a rich, subtle blend of sweet spice with a touch of bitterness, and their whiskey alternative doesn’t disappoint. I especially loved their aperitif alternative, which was so satisfyingly strong that I had to add more soda water, and they also made a gin alternative that’s botanical and refreshing (hello, summertime G+Ts!) plus a tequila and a rum. All their drinks are low in sugar, for a flavor that satisfies a cocktail craving without any regrets tomorrow.

A glass bottle of Ritual Zero Proof whiskey alternative stands on a wooden surface. The label is white with black text. Green plants are in the background.
Cold beverage in a glass, with three bottles of Ritual Zero Proof beverages in the background on a wooden surface, next to a potted plant and large green leaf.
Ritual makes non-alcoholic liquor alternatives with a 1:1 ratio for making your favorite cocktail dupes when you want the experience but not the booze.

    9. Seedlip

Best For | Smooth spirit alternatives
    ABV | Less than 0.05%
    Sugar | 0g
Functional ingredients | Damiana, ginger, lemongrass, rosemary
Price | $32 per bottle, $2.46 per serving

Seedlip was born after founder Ben Branson was given a “sickly sweet pink mocktail” at a restaurant one night. Inspired to create an alternative, and combining his love of nature with his family’s farming background, Branson founded Seedlip to deliver distilled spirits sans artificial flavors. I tried out their Notas de Agave flavor, a tequila alternative that, while it doesn’t really taste too much like tequila, has that same refreshing, summery, zingy taste. It has notes of prickly pear, damiana, and peppercorn that made it subtly sweet and pleasantly smooth to drink on its own — but it was even better once I added lime. I love how this one didn’t try to imitate booze, but rather became its own thing. The brand has a few other enticing botanical flavors, too, like Spice 94 and Garden, with notes of allspice and pea, respectively. These elixirs are sugar- and calorie-free, too.

A bottle of Seedlip non-alcoholic spirit with a floral and bird design label sits on a wooden surface next to some houseplants.
A clear glass with ice and a light-colored beverage sits on a wooden table next to a potted plant.
Seedlip makes an alcohol- and sugar-free set of liquor alternatives that are clean, smooth, and pleasant for a simple, plant-based treat.

    10. Athletic Brewing Co.

    Best For | NA beer
    ABV | less than 0.5%
Sugar | Cane sugar is used only in the radlers
    Price | $14 for a 6-pack, $2.33 per serving; subscriptions available

Athletic Brewing is pretty much the gold standard when it comes to non-alcoholic beer, making brews that deliver on flavor and are targeted towards active people who love beer as much as they love fitness. Their most popular brew, their Run Wild IPA, has an approachable bitterness and a malty body typical of a West Coast IPA, and it’s racked up an impressive 20+ awards, like the best non-alcoholic beer in the US at the World Beer Awards. For a more juicy New England style, check out Free Wave. The B-corp makes plenty of other brew styles, too, like a smooth, sessionable Mexican-style copper and a lemon radler that’s perfect for warm weather — search their site by style, flavor profile, or season to browse their extensive catalog of faithful brews. All the flavors I tried were crushable beer alternatives that scratch that beer itch, making them great for cutting out or cutting down on alcohol consumption or drinking during the day. We also love that the brand gives up to $2 million each year towards trail and park cleanups, maintenance projects, construction, and access. Read our full Athletic Brewing review here.

A can of Athletic Brewing Co. Run Wild IPA non-alcoholic beer sits on a wooden table next to a plant.
A partially filled glass of beer sits on a wooden table, surrounded by green potted plants.
Athletic Brewing Co. is the king of NA beers. Active folks looking for a refreshing brew love that they can find almost every beer style from this brand without sacrificing flavor.

    11. Wooden Spoon Herbs

    Best For | Tinctures
    ABV | 0%
Sugar | Ingredients include stevia, monkfruit, and honey for sweeteners
Functional ingredients | Skullcap, California poppy, feverfew
Price | $29 per bottle, $.74 per serving; subscriptions available

Wooden Spoon Herbs was founded in an effort to make nature-based medicinal approaches to our everyday stresses easy, approachable, and pleasurable. With a background in studying herbalism at the Appalachian Center for Natural Health, founder Lauren Haynes takes her knowledge of cellular biology, folk healing, and phytochemistry to these organic tinctures, elixirs, and blends, each designed to target a specific and common concern. Make this Booze-Free Heavenly Herbaceous Mocktail using the brand’s Rose Colored Glasses tincture for a tasty beverage that supports mental clarity, cognitive function, and overall immune health. I also tried out the Head Helper tincture, which was pleasantly herbal, like cut grass, and has adaptogens like skullcap, California poppy, and feverfew for stress relief. It worked just as well on its own as it did blended with soda water, and it’d be fantastic in an herbaceous mocktail, too.

A glass dropper bottle labeled "Wooden Spoon Herbs" and "Head Helper" is placed on a wooden surface.
A clear glass with a yellow drink and a large ice sphere sits on a wooden table. Green potted plants are in the background.
For nature-based medicinal tinctures and powders formulated by an herbalist, Wooden Spoon Herbs targets stress with organic formulas.

    12. Rock Grace

    Best For | NA wine
    ABV | Less than 5%
    Sugar | 0g
Functional ingredients | Eleuthero, dandelion extract, lemon balm extract, rhodiola
Price | $22 for a bottle, $5.50 per serving; bundles available

If you’re looking for a wine or champagne alternative, try the rosé-resembling Rock Grace. The woman-owned brand makes three different blends — original, ruby, and sparkling — each of which is infused with adaptogens and its own delicate, floral flavor that doesn’t try to imitate wine. I liked their “ruby” blend, which has a botanical, slightly fruity flavor with notes of raspberry and vanilla, along with adaptogens like eleuthero, dandelion extract, lemon balm extract. It’s even made on the day of the Full Flower Moon and is infused with ruby, known for promoting passion, pleasure, and self-love. The brand’s original blend has a similarly mild flavor, making it great for winding down in the evening sans alcohol, with adaptogens like rhodiola and schisandra berry. All their beverages are sugar-free, calorie-free, and are best enjoyed chilled. For more, check out our full review of non-alcoholic wine alternatives here.

A wine glass filled with a light pink wine sits next to a bottle labeled "RG" on a wooden table. A potted plant and a large leaf are partially visible on the table. Sunlight streams in from the left.
A half-full glass of rosé wine sits on a wooden table with soft natural light illuminating the scene.
Rock Grace non-alcoholic wines don’t taste like wine so much as their own unique blend.

    13. Little Saints

    Best For | Plant medicine
    ABV | 0%
    Sugar | 0g
Functional ingredients | Lion’s mane, Reishi, CBD
Price | $50 per bottle, $3.85 per serving; subscriptions available

Founded by a former hydroponic farmer, Little Saints has an approach that combines food science and sacred plant medicines. The brand has reinterpreted classic faves like the negroni or mimosa into sugar-free, canned, non-alcoholic sparkling mocktails. They also make St. Ember, what they call a “plant magic” spirit, designed to lift you up without the negative effects of alcohol. I combined St. Ember with a little soda for a complex mocktail that was smokey and woody from its ginger, cardamom, and palo santo extract. It tasted a bit like a crystal shop smells, but it’s not all about the flavor — it also has 100 mg of lion’s mane per serving, designed to ignite cognition and put you in a better mood. Little Saints’ non-alcoholic seltzers boast brain benefits, too, with adaptogens like reishi and botanical terpenes.

A clear glass bottle of Little Saints non-alcoholic spirit with adaptogens, placed on a wooden surface next to green potted plants.
A glass with ice cubes sits on a wooden surface, surrounded by green potted plants.
Little Saints makes non-alcoholic spirits and canned cocktails that are chockfull of “plant magic,” and tasty to boot!

    14. Avec

Best For | Low or no sugar mixers
    ABV | 0%
    Sugar | 0–6g
Functional ingredients | Ceylon cinnamon, ginger, hibiscus, pomegranate
    Price | $36 for a 12-pack of 8.45 oz. cans

If your drink of choice tends to be anything bright and citrusy, something that goes well with gin or even tequila, you might love Avec. Zippy, all-natural flavors like yuzu and ginger are the perfect happy hour treats, whether you’re mixing in booze or not. My favorite was the jalapeño and blood orange: The spicy flavor really hits the spot when you want a cocktail without the consequences. I love this one shaken with a lot of crushed ice, fresh limes, and a himalayan pink salt rim. If I wanted it to be a little more marg-like I’d top it with some non-alcoholic elderflower cordial or simple syrup. Which is an important note: Avec is not heavy in flavor like a soda or most mixers — at around 20 calories a pop and 80-90% less sugar than their traditional counterparts, this non-alcoholic drink can be enjoyed with your favorite spirit or alone on the rocks. Black-founded and a member of 1% for the Planet, this is the perfect mixer to keep on hand for any mood you’re in.

A can of AVEC Jalapeño and Blood Orange premium carbonated mixer sits on a windowsill in sunlight. The green can highlights its all-natural ingredients and suggests mixing with a spirit or drinking by itself.
A glass with a light yellow drink, garnished with a lime slice, is placed on a sunlit surface next to a potted plant.
Avec is a grown-up choice with sophisticated flavors and minimal calories. We’ve mixed it and had it on its own — it’s fantastic both ways.

    15. VYBES

    Best For | CBD elixirs
    ABV | 0%
    Sugar | 4–12g
Functional ingredients | L-threonate, guayusa, caffeine, lab-tested adaptogens, CBD, magnesium
Price | $42 per 6-bottle pack, $7 per serving; subscriptions available

Packaged in 14-ounce glass bottles, Vybes CBD drinks are refreshingly fruity and just sweet enough to taste like summer in a bottle — especially their strawberry lavender flavor, which remains their best seller since it launched in 2018. The drinks feel more like a replacement for an afternoon iced coffee or tea than for booze, aiming to help you reduce stress with CBD and magnesium. Designed to help calm your mind without making you feel sleepy, they’re a perfect afternoon pick-me-up on stressful days — or any day, really. I was also super impressed by their nutrition facts. Each bottle only has 20 calories and four grams of sugar — they use stevia, too, but it’s disguised impressively well (I say that as someone who doesn’t like the taste of stevia!). Their other flavors are equally mouthwatering, like blueberry mint and peach ginger, and they make an energy drink with magnesium L-threonate, guayusa, and caffeine for a jitter-free afternoon boost.

The functional ingredients in Vybes — namely CBD and magnesium — aim to de-stress. It’s great for replacing your afternoon pick-me-up with something more calming.
